And ... Action! What do Hollywood and the Luftfahrtmuseum Wernigerode have in common? Steven Spielberg himself! Hangar 4 - Jet Engines and Modern Day Aircrafts at Luftfahrtmuseum Wernigerode

H4: JET HANGAR

Simply thrill. Entering Hangar 4 you can smell the kerosene. Here you really feel the stress of the pilots. Speed is the main subject in this hangar: Because here you find the jets.

Barrier tape? That doesn’t exist here.

In the Wernigerode Aviation Museum, the whole family can come as close to the dream of flying as pilots do. Whether it’s the jet plane in which Prince Charles learned to fly in the Royal Air Force, the infamous Starfighter or the giant Antonov: 50 airplanes and helicopters with a stirring history are waiting to be discovered, explored, and admired from up close.

Take a look at the Westland Whirlwind helicopter that Princess Diana travelled in – collector and museum owner Clemens Aulich discovered it at a scrapyard. Did you know that the wings of the Bücker Bü 131 “Jungmann,” which made its maiden flight in 1934, were covered with linen? How does an ejector seat work? What special features does a space traveler’s suit need to have? You can learn all this and more at the Wernigerode Aviation Museum.

Discovery permitted.

Visitors of all ages immerse themselves in the fascinating legends of aviation. Whether it’s technically adept grandpa, a school class, or grandma: the Wernigerode Aviation Museum welcomes one and all to enjoy an impressive tour of discovery through the world of aviation and technology.

Even Hollywood director Steven Spielberg is enthusiastic about the Wernigerode-based museum’s expertise – after all, he worked together with the team on the production of his film “Bridge of Spies.” He found what hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world can confirm: a place with authentic technology that amazes everyone. Children can enjoy activities in several areas of the museum. For example, they can experiment at the wind table, which demonstrates the principles of aerodynamics and airflow.
